Greece has placed third in their group at the second stage of the European Championship in Lithuania after succumbing to the unbeaten Russians with an 83-67 score on Saturday.
The results of the day, with the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia beating Slovenia and Greece going down to Russia meant that Greece will have definitely qualified for the quarterfinals and will finish third in their group.
In the crucial knock-out stage of the last eight next week, Greece will face the loser of the match between Spain and France on Sunday, for a place in the semifinals of the Eurobasket.
Greece’s next game with Georgia on Monday will have no bearing on the national team’s position in the group.
