Playwright and Actor Vassilis Andreopoulos Passes Away

The final curtain has fallen for playwright and actor Vassilis Andreopoulos, who passed away at the age of 88. His last participation in a TV series was”Eisai to tairi mou”, in which he acted as the grandfather of the protagonists. Apart from acting, Andreopoulos was also a dramatist, writing numerous plays for the theater over the span of his career.

Andreopoulos was born in 1923 at Platano Egialias. During the occupation, he was arrested by the Italians.  He managed to escape, but was arrested by German troops a few years later, and was imprisoned in Averof  jail.

Andreopoulos cooperated with many theatrical groups, such as the National Theater and the Opera House, and played a wide variety of roles.  He was a talented man who was adept at playing both comedy and drama.

In 1959, he set up a new stage, named “Twelfth Stage,” where young people could display their talents. His first movie was in the film ”Adventures from the City,” after which he played in numerous films during the decade between the 1960s and 70s.  The last movie in which he appeared was ”Love at the Age of 16” in 2004.

As playwright, Andreopoulos wrote for TV, radio, and cinema. Many of his plays were performed in the National Theater, including ”Heritage”, Wild Games”, ”Zorbas” etc.

His funeral is to be held on August 18th.
