Peace by Aristophanes in Odeon of Herodes Atticus

Peace, the Athenian comedy written by the playwright Aristophanes, is set to be performed in the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, on September 16th and 17th.

The repertory ”Theatrical Route” is in cooperation with popular actor Petros Filipidis, who will perform in the starring role of the play as well as act as its director.

The comedy has a very strong anti-war message.  The jokes are numerous, the action is wildly absurd, and the satire is savage.

In the play, Trygaeus, a middle-aged Athenian, miraculously brings about a peaceful end to the Peloponnesian War, thereby earning the gratitude of farmers while bankrupting various tradesmen who had profited from the hostilities.  He celebrates his triumph by marrying Harvest, a companion of the Festival and Peace, whom he has liberated from a celestial prison.
