Christofias-Sarkozy in Paris to Discuss Cyprus & Turkey

On Tuesday, 26 July, the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Demetris Christofias, met with his French counterpart, Nicolas Sarkozy, in Paris. After the meeting, Mr. Christofias said to journalists that it was always pleasant for him to speak with the French President, who is fond of Cyprus.
Mr. Christofias informed the French President about his meeting with the UN General Secretary and the Turkish Cypriot leader Eroglu in Geneva, as well as about the progress of the Cyprus Question talks. He explained to him that they had discussed with Mr. Eroglu mainly the attitude of Turkey and, more specifically, Tayyip Erdogan and his illegal visit to the Cypriot Occupied Territories.  The two presidents agreed that Turkey was being provocative and insulting and the EU can not stand it. Mr. Christofias seemed satisfied regarding the clear positions of Mr. Sarkozy concerning the Cyprus Question.
The two leaders also talked about the episodes in North Africa and they both agreed that violent episodes should end in Syria and democratic reforms are necessary, while the status quo of Kadafi should also end and the people of Libya should be free to choose their governance democratically.
The French President also expressed his sympathy for the tragedy at the naval base and said he would send French technicians to help the Cyprus Power Authority.
