The President of the International Parish of Hagia Sophia Association Stated: ''Hagia Sofia Will Open soon'', Athens

The President of  the International Parish of Hagia Sophia Association, Chris Spirou, expressed his certainty that the symbol of Orthodoxy will regain its original status. The movement which was set up with U.S. Greek immigrants in 2005, aims to reopen the Orthodox church.
In a press conference Spirou gave in Athens on 21, July, he expressed his certainty that the Hagia Sophia will open again, while he announced that Turkey will be held accountable in European courts for all the desecration that has taken place in the holy temple.
As he stated, the 350-page formal appeal has been filed in the Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg and if accepted, there will be a direct continuation of the topic.
” I informed everybody about the history of the church, the Turkish desecration and the vandalism of the temple that brought about the current situation of the Hagia Sophia,” said Mr. Spirou, noting that the issue has been addressed in writing to the Turkish Government and personally to Prime Minister Erdogan as well as to Members of Congress and members of the Senate.”
The aim of the movement is to help restore the church of Hagia Sofia.
