Ivan Savvidis Claims Greece Rejected Loan Offer from Russia

Greek expatriate Ivan Savvidis, President of the Federation of Greek Community Associations in Russia and Deputy of the Russian Parliament (Duma), revealed that Russia was willing to offer a loan to Greece with a favorable interest rate, but Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou refused his proposal.
He strongly criticized George Papandreou accusing him for the fact that the relations between Greece and Russia have never been worse in the past 20 years. In addition, there is no progress in the agreements between the two countries due to the Greek Prime Minister.
As he said to the daily Greek newspaper “Eleftherotypia”, Mr. Papandreou came to Russia last year and he did not understand why. The President of Russia was ready to give him a loan with a low interest rate, specifically 25 billion euro as a first instalment only. However, according to him, the United States, European Union and the International Monetary Fund said no.
