National Martyrs Memorial Service by Archbishop of America Demetrios


The Archbishop of America Demetrios is visiting Cyprus at the moment.  He held on Sunday, at the Church of Panagia Faneromeni in Nicosia, a memorial service for the Archbishop and National Martyr Kyprianos and for other National Martyrs of July 9th, 1821. After the memorial service, the professor of the University of Cyprus, Petros Papapolyvios, gave a speech about the National Martyrs.  Wreaths were laid at the National Martyrs Memorial, at the forecourt of the Church of Faneromeni. The memorial service attended, among others, the Cypriot Minister of Education and Culture, Andreas Demetriou, and the Greek ambassador Vasilis Papakonstantinou. A church service was held before the memorial service by the Archbishop of America and Cyprus. The Archbishop of America gave to the people the greetings and blessings of the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.
