Director Denis Podalydes Brings Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde to Athens

Although classical repertoire is his specialty, one of the most successful actors and directors in France, Denis Podalydes of Greek origin, has arrived in Athens.  He is in the city to revive under his own direction, Dr. Jekyll and his dark side, Mr. Hyde, from the classic novel by Robert Louis Stevenson. It is being performed in the central arena of the House of Arts and Letters on May 24th through 26th.
This is the “Case Jekyll,” a dramatic monologue written especially for him by Christine Montalmpeti . He performed it in early 2010 at the Theatre de Sayo, winning major acclaim from the audience and critics.
Due to its success, the show was resumed a few days ago in the same theater before coming to Athens. Forty-eight-year-old Denis Podalydes is the centre of attention for playing Nicolas Sarkozy in the film “La Conquete”, by Ntirinze Xavier.
Taking part in the direction side as well, Denis Pontalydes also has his own views about the film. “This project was my idea, but I asked Emmanuel Bourdieu and Eric Reef to join the directing side, because I had no idea of what I was going to produce. It was a way to leave myself free.”
Talking about his future plans, the popular actor said that next year he will play  the “Gentleman” (Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme) by Moliere, in the Bouffes du Nord theatre in France.
