EU Van Rompuy: Need New IMF Head Soon To Face Greek Crisis

A new head for the International Monetary Fund must be found quickly as the power vacuum is affecting efforts to deal with the Greek crisis, and Europe has very good candidates for the post, European Council President Herman Van Rompuy said Thursday.
“We are feeling a lack of leadership in solving the Greek crisis. In the last day it was very clear,” Van Rompuy said at a business conference. “So we have to move very quickly on this.”
Van Rompuy also said this is not the time to put an end to the tradition of Europe naming the IMF managing director.
“There are a lot of arguments” in favor of a European to take the job, he said. “A tradition can be changed, but not now.”
