Christofias and Greek Minister of Agriculture Discuss Cyprus Issue and CAP

The Cyprus problem and the EU Common Agriculture Policy were the focus of a meeting on Wednesday between President Demetris Christofias and Greek Minister of Agriculture and Food Development Costas Skandalides.
In statements after the meeting, Skandalides said they discussed agricultural issues and the cooperation between Cyprus and Greece in the sector, assuring that Greece will stand by Nicosia as regards Cyprus’ EU Presidency in the second half of 2012.
“I can assure you that we will work together for a common agricultural policy that will promote the interests of Greece and Cyprus and secure the agricultural development of our countries during the coming years and until 2020, in a particularly crucial period,” he noted.
Skandalides said that there is close and very effective cooperation between the ministries of Greece and Cyprus, adding that “we support the common agriculture policy and the Cypriot EU Presidency.”
Skandalides also said that he discussed with President Christofias the Cyprus problem and developments in the region.
