Two Dead and a 7 Year-Old Seriously Injured from Easter Fireworks

The most popular type of fireworks used during the divine Easter liturgy in Greece

It is not the first time that Easter celebrations turn into tragic accidents in Greece. On the island of Rhodes two men were killed and in Chalkis, Evia, a 7 year-old boy was seriously injured.
The two men (30 and 39 years-old) were experimenting with home-made fireworks while one of those exploded and killed both instantly. The tragic event took place at about 6.40 pm on Holy Saturday in the village of Mandriko in Rhodes.
The 7-year-old boy was injured at a local church in Chalkis, Evia, during the divine Easter liturgy. A parishioner – by mistake- threw a firework in the entrance of the church which exploded and injured the boy on the face and head. The 7 year-old was rushed to the hospital and its condition remains stable.
