Greek Revolution Event Takes Place in Washington, D.C.

An event dedicated to the 5th President of the U.S.A. James Monroe and the American friends of Greece and their contribution to the Greek Revolution, took part in Washington, under the aegis of the Greek Ambassador Vassilis Kaskarelis. At the event at Monroe’s house, they presented the recent edition of the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs concerning the support of the American people to the Greek fight for independence. James Monroe was the President of the U.S.A. when General Petrobeis Mavromichalis asked for America’s help in 1821. The Prime Minister of Greece, who has written the preface of the book, gave a copy to President Barak Obama, in March of 2010. The book about the former President and the Americans who helped Greece at that time was particularly appreciated by Paul Sarbanes, former U.S. Senator and Greek in origin. The American friends of Greece will also be honored by the U.S. Postal Service, which will soon issue a collection of special stamps.
