Angry gypsies have battled police and set fire to Athens’ main landfill northwest of the Greek capital after a fellow gypsy was found dead earlier on Saturday.
The unidentified man was rummaging among the garbage when he was crushed by a waste compactor, whose operator did not notice him.
About 200 people gathered at the site, burned three vehicles and set fire to the pile of garbage. Police removed them about two hours later.
Eight firefighting vehicles are battling the blaze.
