The Greek Cup basketball final on Sunday between holders Olympiakos Pireaus and league champions Panathinaikos has been postponed due to safety concerns, the general secretariat for sport said on Tuesday.
The derby encounter between the two Athens rivals was scheduled to take place in front of school pupils rather than supporters to eliminate the threat of crowd violence in the wake of trouble after Olympiakos’s win over Panathinaikos in the Greek soccer championship on Feb. 19.
But authorities have decided to postpone the final until further notice on police advice as tensions between the two teams continue to run high.
