Greek-Canadian Nikki Ponte Talks Exclusively about Eurovision Contest & Greek X-Factor

Just a few hours before the official presentation of the six songs that are contesting to be the Greek Nominee to this years Eurovision Contest, Greek – Canadian Nikki, talks exclusively to Greek Reporter. She seems to be totally excited and full of energy, absolutely ready to give her best. She has come to Greece with the dream of a national and international career. Her success at X-Factor brings her very close to the most famous music contest in Europe. Rumors say that the National Greek TV (ERT), who is responsible for the Greek Eurovision Bid, first came in touch with Nikki to ask her to compete. While Greek gossip media talk about her all the time and for statements supposedly made by the well known Greek music manager Ilias Psinakis blaming the ERT for asking Nikki’s participation in the bid, she has a good word for everyone, and most of all X-factor’s winner, Haris.

Nikki, do you believe that Harris worth to win X-Factor?
Absolutely. I am very happy about Harris. He is a great performer. Totally deserved it.

What did you get out of X-Factor?
X-Factor was something extraordinary for me. I got so much more experience on stage, got to know the music industry and how hard you need to work to survive in it.

Your family came to support you all the way from Toronto. What news did they bring you from there? Do the Greeks in Canada say about you? Do they support you?
Everybody is so proud, and I really thank them for that. Everyone say I should keep going and keep following my dream. And I follow their advice.

Did your parents found you different?
Yeah!  They keep telling me I’m better and much more mature. It’s like I’ve grown in just a few months.

About you bid for Eurovision, some people say that your songs hasn’t got ant greek elements, and therefore it should be the one to get picked. What do you think of that?
We choose the song based on how much we liked it. Everybody is very excited about it and they think it suits me and my voice. I think it’s a song that “fits” in such a big European contest.

Rumors have it that the famous greek music manager Ilias Psinakis has said that the fact that ERT asked you to be one of the finalist for the contest without your music company entering you first, was not playing by the rules. Do you let this kind of rumors get to you?
I honestly don’t know what it has been said. I try not to watch all these in television exactly because I don’t want to be influenced. I’m focused to what I do and to my performance tomorrow.
