Popular Greek Chef Benardis Plans Culinary Tour in Greece

Maria Benardis is the founder of “Greekalicious” culinary school in Sydney, Australia.
Maria Benardis is currently preparing a culinary tour the following fall, a “Greek island adventure of gastronomical indulgence” as she calls it.  She invites all to take part in this unique journey.
The expedition will commence in Athens.  It will travel back in time to experience the ritual of shopping at the marketplace and uncover all essential ingredients of a Greek pantry.  The shopping will be followed by a visit to the Parthenon and other ancient sites. The culinary journey will then continue to Chios, home of the “magical masticha”, followed by Crete (Iraklio and Chania).  Travelers will discover the secrets of Cretan cuisine.  Crete is the home of sfela cheese and the famous Greek salad.  Participants will travel to Kalamata, Pylos and Koroni in Messinia. The journey begins on September 6th 2011 and will be concluded on the 19th of September, for a total of 14 days and 13 nights.
“Gastronomy, an Ancient Greek word, signifies the relationship between the senses and food, and exemplifies the attitude of the Greeks to life and food” states Maria Benardis, adding that “The journey will help you reconnect with nature, old traditions, customs and yourself.”
Maria Benardis’ first book “My Greek Family Table” has already been crowned with success.  It won one of the most prestigious gastronomy awards “Gourmand World Cookbook Awards 2009 – Winner Best Mediterranean Cuisine Book (Australia)”.
