Bulgarian P.M. Borisov: “Our External Borders Much Safer than Greece”

Bulgaria’s external borders are much safer than the Greek ones, stated Prime Minister Boyko Borisov regarding his country’s preparedness to enter the Schengen Zone.
Speaking in an interview for Nova TV, Borisov said Bulgaria is bent on fulfilling all technical requirements for Schengen accession in time, and that the country’s borders are already up to standards.
He nevertheless admitted that Bulgaria has work to do in the fields of combating corruption and organized crime, something that France and Germany have linked to Schengen prospects.
Borisov said he hoped that the February interim report on the Co-operation and Verification Mechanism for Corruption and Organized Crime will be good enough for a positive political desicion to be taken for a March 2011 entry of Bulgaria in the Schengen Zone.
