Turkey Denies EU Compromise on Opening its Ports to Greek Territory

Turkish officials denied Friday a television channel’s claim that Turkey had reached a compromise with the European Union on opening its ports to Greek Cyprus, in return for the opening of negotiation chapters in Turkey’s EU accession process.
“The news of a compromise with the EU to open our ports to Greek Cypriots is not true. Our conditions on this issue are known by all,” Turkey’s chief EU negotiator Egemen Bağış was quoted as saying by the Anatolia news agency.
Foreign Ministry officials also denied any compromise reached with the EU.
The private Turkish channel NTV report announced that an agreement had been reached.  It also said the formula could be implemented in the coming months if it is accepted by the Greek Cypriot administration.
