Abundant Zeolite Deposits Found in Thrace

The province of Thrace in Greece contains abundant zeolite deposits. Zeolite is one of the most precious natural products with many uses. Zeolites have a porous structure that can accommodate a wide variety of cations. It is widely used for water purification, as catalysts, and in nuclear reprocessing. Their biggest use is in the production of laundry detergents. They are also used in medicine and in agriculture.
Zeolite is formed from the fusion of lava and ocean water, and combines all four elements.  It has been used for more than 800 years in Asia as a remedy for overall health and well-being.  It is on the FDA’s GRAS list (generally recognized as safe). Zeolite is available commercially in a purified, activated form, in the zeolite product.
Over the last several decades, numerous scientists, medical professionals, fitness consultants and alternative healthcare providers around the world have supported research & development into the many biochemical and biomedical applications of zeolites. These applications include detoxicants and decontaminants, vaccine adjuvants and antibacterial agents. Zeolites are also used as nutritional supplements. Some clinoptilolite-based dietary supplements have demonstrated antioxidant activity in humans. It has a chelation-like effect in removing heavy metals, particularly lead, mercury, cadmium, and arsenic, pesticides, herbicides, PCBs, and other toxins from the body. It also appears to prevent and may become an important treatment for cancer.
In agriculture, clinoptilolite (a naturally occurring zeolite) is used as a soil treatment. It provides a source of slowly released potassium. If previously loaded with ammonium, zeolite(s) can serve a similar function in the slow release of nitrogen.
