The Greek Medical Association of New York honored Senator Robert Menendez. Menendez thanked the Association for the award and talked about his activity regarding the Hellenic-American community and the Cypriot issue. “The establishment of unity and territorial integrity of Cyprus is one of the most significant matters that concerns my mission in the U.S.A. Senate”, stated Menendez. Another important issue is the case of the Ecumenical Patriarchate. He underlined that Turkey must not be allowed to control matters of succession in the Patriarchate. He also added that the return of properties of the Ecumenical Patriarchate must also be secured. “I will keep struggling to protect the religious liberty of the Ecumenical Patriarch, who is the head of millions of Orthodox Christians all over the world”, he said. Dr. Charalambos Pothoudakis, Mr. Panikos Papanikolaou and the Aegean Medical Group were also honored in the event.
