December 11th Marks International Day for Children!

Today is the International Day for Children.  In many parts of the world kids are abused and die every day. According to Unicef, 22,500 children die due to lack of vaccines, clean water or starvation. One of the most encouraging facts is that today millions of children go to school; a much higher number than only a few years ago.
In Greece, 450,000 children and youngsters live in impoverished conditions. This means that about 23,3 % of childen from 0 to 17 years old live in poverty. This tremendous figure should help citizens realize the severity of the situation and unite to fight for children’s rights!
Students at the Ionian University of Corfu have organised a special event dedicated to children in cooperation with the NGO “Best Buddies”. The students raised a significant amount of money to help children in need. The moto of the event was: “The Right to be a Child”.
