New Mayor Patsikatheodorou of Hume is Greek!

Approximately 300 people attended the meeting of the City of Hume Council on Wednesday, the 2nd of  December. The community witnessed Greek Helen Patsikatheodorou elected as Mayoress for the City of Hume for the next 12 months.
In accepting the role of Mayor,  Patsikatheodorou thanked her fellow Councillors for their support and paid special tribute to the immediate past Mayor, Councillor Geoff Porter. She also reaffirmed her commitment to listening to the community about what they value and their aspirations.
“My passion is people, and that was my reason for standing on Council – our people are our most treasured asset, our young children, youth, families, and our aged,” Patsikatheodorou said.
“I want to see a healthy community that is compassionate, will lend a helping hand, will respect, be inclusive, will not judge or condemn, and has freedom of expression and understanding.”
Patsikatheodorou also acknowledged local issues including community health and safety and promised to continue to advocate for the rehabilitation of the Tullamarine Landfill.
“The year ahead promises to be challenging and rewarding with the completion of the final stages of the Main Street extension, the construction and opening of the Craigieburn Library and Learning Centre, and further development of the Sunbury streetscape,” Patsikatheodorou said.
“These are just a few of the projects already started that will be completed next year. Others will be the final stages of planning for the Craigieburn Town Centre and the development of the Broadmeadows Central Activities District – the Capital of the North.”
Patsikatheodorou’s first engagement as Mayor was a civic reception to thank Council’s volunteers for their tireless efforts and contributions to the community, which she attended immediately following the Statutory Meeting.
