Environment Undersecretary Announces New Energy Study

Greek Environment Undersecretary Gorge Maniatis announced the creation of a public institution today.  It will control the concessions for the search for and exploitation of hydrocarbon fields.
The announcement follows the scientific statements made during two congresses.  The congresses were held in Crete and Athens.  Topics were encouraging results of the existence of natural gas reserves south of the island of Crete and in other areas of the Aegean sea. The focus of the search according to the Minister, will be in the west of Greece where there are indications hydrocarbon presence.
According to the economic agency Capital.gr, there have not been many studies in Greece compared to other countries.
Greek and foreign oil companies have already expressed their interest.
