Metsovo is Leading Winter Destination in Greece!

Metsovo is a renowned mountainside village straddling the Pindus mountain range where Epirus converges with western Macedonia and Thessaly.  It ranks as one of the pre-eminent winter and alpine destinations in Greece.
Standing at an altitude of 1,156 metres and overlooking a steep valley below, Metsovo serves as the seat of the nearby region.  It houses a year round population of 6,000.
According to the Egnatia Epirus Foundation, Metsovo is first mentioned in 1380 A.D. in the chronicles of brothers Proclus and Comnenus.
Initially a small settlement, the town later prospered due to its excellent location.  Metsovo’s 20th century economic and cultural development was decisively boosted by the Creation of the Baron Michail Tositsa Foundation in 1948 by the benefactor himself.
The town and the surrounding region is still a centre of manufacturing of traditional and handmade woven textiles, embroideries, carpets and blankets.
