Maria Negreponti – Delivani Elected as Honorary Member of Romanian Academy of Sciences

The Academy of Sciences of Romania honored for the first time a representative of Greece. The distinguished economist Maria Negreponti – Delivani who is the  former Dean, professor and chairman of Delivanis Foundation was elected as an Honorary Member of the Romanian Academy of Sciences.  The Academy was founded in 1918 and is chaired by the renowned Romanian heart surgeon Vasile Candea. Maria Negreponti – Delivanis recently participated in a Conference of the Academy in Mioveni, Romania, as the keynote speaker on the subject of: “The Public Debt Crisis in Greece and Europe”.

Maria Negreponti-Delivanis studied at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and at the Sorbonne in Paris where she obtained her State Doctorate Degree of Economic Sciences. She also studied and conducted research at the London School of Economics, in Berkeley, California and the European University of Florence (Fiesole).
She is a professor of Economics and the first woman Rector in Greece.  She was reelected three times at the Macedonian University of Thessaloniki (Greece). She is a consultant at OECD, Vice-President of the Administrative Council of the International Association of French Language Economists, Director of CEDIMES-Greece and President of the Dimitri and Maria Delivanis Foundation. Her curriculum-vitae appears in the editions of Who is Who.

She has been honoured with scholarships by the French Government, NATO and by the European University Institute of Florence.  She has recieved four golden medals by the Holy Metropolis of Thessaloniki, has been declared honorary citizen of the city of Komotini and has received the 1st prize by the Athens Academy.

She is an Honorary Doctor of the Universities of Democritos (Thrace),Targoviste (Rumania), Altaï (Russia) and Kainar (Kazakhstan). The dimension of her scientific work is manifested in the numerous invitations from Washington, New York, Paris, Rome, Bonn, Marseille, Florence, Trieste, Sofia, Bratislava, Melbourne, Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro, Port-au-Prince.  She has published 38 books and over 600 articles in Greek, French, English, Spanish , and Romanian.
