“Mιdιa” English Performance at Centaur Theatre, Montreal

The Scapegoat Carnivale Theater of writer and actor Andrew Apergis will perform on stage at the English speaking Centaur Theater in Montreal with the work “Μιdιa” of Euripides.  It is translated by Greek Canadean artist Joseph Shragge.

The play will be directed by Alison Darcy and Andrew Apergis.  It will contain original music of Brian Lipson and will be musically directed by David Oppenheim. Amy Keith is responsible for customs . David Perreault is in charge of lightning and for in production is Melanie St-Jacques.

France Rolland will impersonate Midia, facing Andrew Apergis as Iason.The remaining  roles will be taken by ex-art director of Centaure Theater Maurice Podbrey and actors from Montreal: Alex Ivanovici, Dusan Dukic, Diana Fajrajsl, Holly Gauthier Frankel, Melissa Trottier, Gitu Jain, Stefanie Buxton, Lindsay Wilson, Elijah Flomen, Thomas Rolland Apergis, John Dodge and Geroge Bekiaris.

“Midia “ is one of the most important and totally Greek tradegies.The plot is about the consequences followed after Iason left his wife Medea for King’s Kreon daughter.  Midia, after her exile by the king plans her revenge against Iason.The play is full of dark intrigues,political turbulences and tradegies.

The production is inspired from 1920’s Greece after the population exchange between Greece and Turkey.The intervention of Greek and Turkish cultures resulted in the creation of “Rebetika”. “The ancient “Xoros”(ancient dancing group,often followed by religious performance) will sing Rebetika, a music which transports the sadness and drama in modern social scenery in transationalism and passion”,  Andrew Apergis said.
