Greek Real Estate Scandal Investigation

More than 20 lawyers, judges and other judicial employees are under investigation by the Greek police in relation to a real estate company scandal and suspicious financial transactions.
It appears that the ones held under suspicion leaked information after the properties were to be sold in auctions. They tracked the home owners who lost their houses due to outstanding debts, and asked them to sign fake documents “proving” that the property had been rented to Cypriot companies owned by the alleged crime group.
In other cases, they appeared before the auction to ask for compensation.  They claimed they had provided financial advices to the owners regarding the properties. Their demands reached 450.000 Euros in some cases.
The investigation started after numerous bank complaints who stated that they lost millions of Euros as the properties auctioned had already been sold and that the same lawyers were involved in all of the cases.
The Greek authorities are now analyzing carefully recorded discussions and thousands of confiscated documents that seem to prove the deception.
