Bank Robbers on Alonissos Flee on Inflatable Boat

At 9:00 a.m today two armed men robbed a National Bank of Greece branch on the island of Alonissos.  The island is located in the northern region of the Sporades chain of islands in the west central Aegean.The robbers attempted to flee through the isle on a hijacked  motor scooter before being knocked down. A Coast Guard officer observed the situation and chased them down. The two criminals shot him but fortunately he was only slightly injured. Immediately the officer reported the incident to  local Coast Guard authorities.  The two robbers managed to board  an inflatable boat and sped north towards the islands of Skopelos and Skiathos.
Currently local Authorities are investigating  the area while the Coast Guard conducts a seaborne investigation. An inflatable craft is detected but it is not determined yet whether it carries the two suspects.
