Antiquities smugglers and burglars arrested

Yesterday, the police announced that two men aged 26 and 41 were arrested while trying to sell a stolen icon to a third man, who managed to escape. The icons, who date back to the 18th century, were stolen by a Byzantine church  situated in Kouvaras region, Aitoloakarnania prefecture, in central Greece.The antiquities dealers, who were caught red-handed, are now in the court of law and the public attorney’s office is further investigating.
In a separate incident two Georgian men were arrested in Nea Smurni, Athens and are accused of committing 33 burglaries as many stolen goods were found in their appartment.
