Industrial Factory Pollutes Pinios River

Environmental group authorities and representatives were called in by residents of Larissa to examine a black oily substance in the Pinios River, located in central Greece.
Authorities discovered the source of the substance which gave off a strong odor and was similar to oil.  It was animal fat processed from an industrial factory that appeared to be dumping biological cleaning residue into the river.
Samples of the substance are being examined while authorities are conducting an investigation based on the existing legislation to impose the appropriate taxes as a penalty. The plant’s owner claimed the incident is due to negligence.  He has organized a clean up team of employees to help alleviate the situation.
