7 Greek Cypriot Family Remains Located in Occupied Cyprus

According to The Cyprus Mail, seven Greek Cypriot families were informed that the remains of their missing relatives had been identified yesterday; 36 years after they had gone missing due to the Turkish invasion.
According to The Greek Cypriot Representative on the Tri-Partite Committee for Missing Persons Elias Georgiades, the remains were found during excavations in occupied Mesaoria. Regarding excavations that are underway in Strovolos, Nicosia, Georgiades said efforts were being made to wrap up work as soon as possible.
“We chose this period when traffic isn’t so busy and it wouldn’t create too many problems for the shops or homes in the area, and the scientists decided to skip their holidays and work at full steam so we can finish as soon as possible. There is information  that Turkish Cypriots were buried in the area in 1964 but the exact number is difficult to determine,” stated Georgiades.
There are currently six excavation teams working in the occupied areas and one in the Greek territory of Paphos.
