AEK Athens captured Tthe Sydney International Pre-Season Tournament with a 1-0 win over Glasgow Rangers on Saturday.
The Light Blues started off the Sydney friendly tournament with a 2-1 victory over The Blackburn Rovers, but drew 0-0 in the torrential rain against hosts Sydney FC. The final game against AEK Athens early this morning ended as a 1-0 victory for the Greeks.
Walter Smith was pleased with the run out despite the result. The gaffer said it was good preperation concerning the upcoming Champions League campaign. The only issue of the tournament is injury worries from three players.
Kenny Miller is a concern with a shin splints problem while Kyle Lafferty and Andy Webster have both suffered from groin injuries. Miller is the major concern as he is playing and did play in this game but is now in pain. Meanwhile Lafferty and Webster will be heeled in a matter of days.
AEK Athens’ goal was scored by Australian Nathan Burns who was a second half substitute for the Greeks. Despite the scoreline The Rangers dominated the game but lacked a bit of cutting edge which is a concern.
