Renovated Thassos archaeological museum

The archaeological museum on the northern Aegean island of Thassοs was re-dedicated on Saturday in the isle capital of Limena following extensive renovations at the facility.
The museum, which was first erected in 1934,  displays more 1,700 objects  in the 1,400-square-metre and 16 halls and  host exhibits dating from the early antiquity right down to the Byzantine periodand permits us to form an idea of the institutions,  life,  mores and artistic tendencies of the island’s inhabitants during ancient times.  The unearthed remains of Classical and Roman-era buildings can be seen in the museum’s basement. The archaeological museum is regarded as being one of the most important in the Greek provinces.
The newly renovated museum was inaugurated by Culture and and Tourism Minister Pavlos Geroulanos.
