The Greeks all over the world promote the Greek tourism with a campaign. The Greek organizations in America, Australia and Europe using the Internet, the local newspapers and special events, try to activate our 7.000.000 compatriots to travel with their friends to Greece for their holidays and help the country to recover from the financial crisis.
The campaigns are full of imagination. For example, the Australian travelling organization «Greece and Mediterranean Travel Center» in its campaign has a photo of the Australian prime minister Kevin Rant and one of the opposition leader accompanied by the slogan: “Change the boring faces of our politicians with the magic of Greece”. The same campaign is also in the newspaper Neos Kosmos and in its website www.neoskosmos.com.au that, in association with the Greek National Tourism Organization (ΕΟΤ), presents the Greek landscapes and the impressions of hundreds of visitors. In addition, the association “News Network” proposes in its website www.escape.com.au a summer escape from the south hemisphere’s winter.
The efforts are also supported by the World Council of Hellenes Abroad (SAE) and the weekly Greek-American newspaper «Greek News».
In the campaign, there is also the information that Barrack Obama plans to have his summer holidays in Crete. The Guardian refers that the American president will probably stay in a yacht and estimates that the Obama’s present will be a relief for the Greece’s bad situation.
The situation has changed in Germany too. The campaign there is presented by the local Greek-German channels, by events in different cities but also by the German medias. As «BILD am Sonntag» said: “It’s cheaper visiting Greece than staying home”.
The Greek tourism was also presented in London, when G.N.T.O created a Greek beach by the river Thames.
A similar campaign started also by the Sector for the Greek emigrants of Pan-Hellenic Socialist Movement (PASOK) under the title “the Greeks of the world have holidays in Greece”.
