Presentation of the movie “The city of miracles” in Turkey

The collaboration between Greeks and Turkish people of the cinema is probably the most important one between the two nations, because it’s based on the cinema’s people initiative and not on the politicians’ one, underlined the famous writer Petros Markaris, presenting in Istanbul the movie “The city of miracles” by Fotini Siskopoulos (photo).

“It’s a movie for the memories of the Greeks of Istanbul, what they want to remember and what to forget” added Mr. Markaris, who worked for the movie’s script adaption.

“A sudden desire to discover the legendary Greek city of Constantinople and the present Turkish Istanbul and the curiosity about our neighbors was the reason for the creation of this movie” said Fotini Siskopoulos and she added: “Culture can achieve what politics can’t. We don’t believe that the problems between the two nations are unsolved. Let’s allow ourselves know them better and vice versa”.

The Greek Film Center, the ERT S.A. (Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation) and Fotini Siskopoulos are co-producers of the movie. We should underline that that’s the first time a Greek movie is wholly shot in Turkey in collaboration with the Sinevizyon Film, under the direction of Biket Ilhan and Nihat Belgin.

In the presentation of the production the actor Minas Hatzisavvas who plays in the movie, was also there. He underlined: “I’m glad to participate in this production. The art should always bring people together”.
