Mr. George Kokkinos form Melbourne, will be soon awarded with the “Pride of Australia” medal. His action makes proud not only his family but the whole community of Melbourne.
The 69-years-old man has already raised $120,000 for the Alfred hospital by grilling sausages in different places of Melbourne and he will continue his charity.
The reason for this donation is an unpleasant moment in his life. 17 years ago, his son, a glass-cutter had an accident. A glass fell down and slashed the unlucky guy from the head and above. The slash is about 1,23m. “Nobody believed that our son could stay alive. But he lived and that’s because of the hospital and its doctors” says Mr. George.
When Mr. George worked, he could not spend a lot of time for charities. But 3 years ago, when he retired, he decided that he will thank the hospital that saved his son life, seven days a week by grilling sausages, selling lottery tickets and organizing charity events.
In the age of 69, he is considered as one of the most active people of his age with a very kind heart. The state will award his devotion to the charities not only with the “Medal of Australia” but also by giving his name to a chamber of the Alfred hospital. He makes us all proud.
