Glukeria’s soulful concert in the heart of Constantinople.

By Afroditi Lakiotis
Last Friday, Glukeria gave a fabulous concert in Constantinople, and especially in Agia Eirini’s church, which nowadays operates as a museum. This was the inaugural concert of a whole set named World Music.
Glukeria fascinated her audients, who were over a thousand people, with her reading and her immediacy in an extremely towering place. The concert began with two instrumental issues composed by Stavros Ksarxakos and Giannis Markopoulos, that were performed by the orchestra of twelve people and immediately after this, Glukeria came on stage, performing the song «Ευλόγει η ψυχή μου τον Κύριον » composed by Stamatis Spanoudakis from the album “7 Παρακλήσεις” that touched the audience, creating a solemn atmosphere. She moved on by singing songs written by Mikis Theodorakis, Manos Xatzidakis, Stavros Ksarxakos, folk songs and traditional songs from the island of Smurni.
One of the most wonderful moments of the night was when Glukeria invited the Turkish singer Zülfü Livaneli (photo) on stage and sang together in Turkish the song “Leylim Ley”, while the audience was applauding.
Glukeria, who has given twice a concert in Constantinople and once in Proussa, was really moved because she sang in a marvellous and towering place like that, as well as because of the cordial people. Among the audience, were many Greeks, with whom she discussed after the end of the concert.
