George Papandreou expressed his optimism for the outcome of the Greek efforts to face the country’s financial problems. George Papandreou replying to the questions in USA, said that Greece may take legal action against American banks as responsible for the Greek crisis.
During the press conference, George Papandreou characterized as positive the perspectives of Greece, saying that “the hard work of our people will produce results. We have already the first positive indications. When Greece sets goals, nothing is impossible”.
The Prime Minister expressed his intention for the creation of a committee of inquiry in order to investigate the reasons of the country’s financial crisis among which may also prove to be some American investment banks.
The Prime Minister elaborated on many issues such as the ongoing deficit and economic crisis plaguing Greece and the foreign policy of the country. He appealed to the Greeks of USA to actually support the efforts of the Greek government and he revealed his thought to publish a homologue for the Greeks in foreign countries.
As far as the foreign policy is concerned, George Papandreou talked about the Greek-Turkish relations and Cyprus and he supported Christophias’ policy. He also commented on FYROM name-issue and he repeated the long-standing Greek position for a compound name with a geographical determination. He also expressed the hope for a positive outcome in the framework of the dialogue under the aegis of United Nations Organization.
Finally he talked about the Greek Universities, the need for attracting tourists and he underlined that Greece is a safe country.
