London: Welcome to Greece!

For ten days, the residents and visitors of London walking along the South Bank of the river Thames will have the unexpected opportunity to meet Greece.
On the initiative of the Hellenic Organization of Tourism in Great Britain, several hundred tons of sand were accumulated in a huge place of 1200 square meters in the heart of London. All these, in combination with the umbrellas, the deck-chairs, the tables and the bar that have been placed there, had the intention of mentally transferring the busy Londoners to a Greek island. The scenery of a Greek beach is completed with Greek music- live or canned-, events such as face painting, beach volley matches as well as tourist kiosks of the most popular destinations for the British.
This initiative aims at boosting the tourism from Britain, especially this year that, because of financial difficulties confronted also by the British, most of them change their habits, booking their vacations rather late. The directress of the Hellenic Tourist Organization in Britain, Sofia Panagiotaki expressed the wish that the Greek beach in the river Thames can persuade the British to visit Greece this summer together with their families. In the opening of the beach, the President of the Hellenic Tourist Organization was present and in a few days the State secretary for civilization and tourism, George Nikitiades will also be there. The beach will remain open until the 27th of June.
