Stories and quips from Asia Minor and Greece

The Center for Eastern Languages and Culture are launching a series entitled “The Popular Culture of the East” with works of anonymous authors that the oral tradition preserved to our days, as well as popular readings, especially popular in Eastern nations.
The series is initiated by the stories of Nasrettin Hodja, which have been entertaining and teaching lessons to people from the East and the West. The objective of this edition is for Greeks of a certain age to remember their grandmother or their grandfather, who raised them with these stories, whilst for the younger generation, knowing Hodja, to understand that there is a sense of humour which apart from entertainment can also provide food for reflection.
The publication includes stories taken from Turkish sources (Cappadocia and broader Asia Minor), stories from Greece (Crete, Epirus, Macedonia, Thrace) which are not found in Turkish sources, as well as stories which can be found in Greece and Turkey with the same content but different presentation.
The translation and adaptation was done by Faruk Tunzai and the rendering of the text in Greece by Maria Skiadaresis.
The redaction of the text is done by Loukia Stefou And the illustration is done by Maria Baha.
