Angelo Surmelis to Speak at LA’s Largest Design Event

Designer Angelo Surmelis, who has hosted design shows for networks TLC, Lifetime, Style and HGTV, and recently launched his own line of furniture called angelo:HOME,  has been scheduled to speak on June 25 at Dwell Design, the West Coast’s largest design event. Dwell Design draws more than  20,000 design professionals and enthusiasts over a three day conference. The event, which will feature specially curated exhibits by leading designers from all over the world, will take place at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

Surmelis was born in Germany, and lived in Greece until he was six, when his family moved to Chicago. He has said that he got his start when he was a young boy, rearranging his family’s apartment in Chicago. He indicated that it was hard for them to reprimand him for moving the furniture, when they realized it looked better when he was finished! Angelo Surmelis went on to study fine art and design, and minored in theater. As an actor, while living in New York and later in Los Angeles, he appeared in shows like General Hospital, Port Charles, Saturday Night Live and Angel. In Los Angeles, after doing some design work for friends and occasional freelance work, the multi-talented artist decided to turn his passion into a business; he began designing professionally in 1995.  His firm quickly became one of the top design companies in LA, designing for companies like Playboy, and television shows on VH1.

The innovative and tireless designer looks forward to sharing his design ideas at the conference as well as expanding his new furniture line. He recently appeared in Dwell magazine, advocating the “green” lifestyle.

The designer will speak along with Susan Inglis of the Sustainable Furnishings Council. The discussion will be “A Chat About What’s EcoFriendly.”
