Patriarchal Divine Liturgy on August 15th at Panagia Sumela in Pontos

The first Divine Liturgy after 1922 at Panagiaa Sumela will be celebrated on the day of the Assumption in the Historic Monastery by the Ecumenical Patriarch, His All Holiness Bartholomew.
More specifically, the Minister of Culture, Mr. Gunai, announced the decision of the Government to the Ecumenical Patriarch on Monday night on the occasion of a concert performed at the Church of St. Irene. According to the government document, the request of the Ecumenical Patriarchate is passed, on performing Holy Liturgy once per year on the feast of the Assumption on August 15th. Furthermore, it is added that the pilgrims must be particularly careful in order to avoid any unwanted damage to the monument and the preserved frescoes.
The decision was announced on Tuesday and officially through a relevant document to the Patriarchate. This decision confirms the verbal commitment of Mr. Gunai to the Ecumenical Patriarch.
A few weeks ago the Mayor of Matska in Pontus (15 km away from the Monastery of Panagia Sumela) and invited him in his city adding that it will be a very important event of joy and honor for the residents of this city. This is a historical development for the rebirth of the liturgical life of this historical monastery, a symbol representing the Greeks in Pontus.
