Lawyers launch 48 hour strike

Lawyers are to launch a 48-hour strike today to protest against the new tax measures and imminent changes to the pension system. The Government estimates it is losing billions in uncollected taxes each year. Rather than by the payable hour, lawyers in Greece charge per job and almost always do not send a formal invoice to clients. Without proper documentation it is easy for lawyers to hide their income. By adding what is essentially a sales tax the Government hopes that it will be able to get a more accurate tabulation of lawyers’ income.
A second 48-hour strike is planned for June 16 and 17.
