Lysacek Comes in 2nd on "Dancing"

Last night, Evan Lysacek, Olympic Gold medal-winning ice skater and native of suburban Chicago, placed second in the final competition of the 10th season of “Dancing with the Stars.” His fans are shaking their heads, wondering just how he didn’t win. Pussycat Dolls lead singer Nicole Scherzinger and her partner Derek Hough were the winners.

The Chicago Tribune quoted the skater, saying “It’s been such a blast.” They also reported that he has stated that the experience with dancing will help his skating, in that “judges will recognize the difference between someone faking a tango and someone really showing knowledge.”

The gracious 24 year-old skater posted on his Facebook page this morning, “Thank you to everyone who ever voted for me on Dancing With The Stars. I can’t believe it’s over already! I might not have won but I had a great time learning and performing. I’m so glad that I did it and am so glad that I had your support.” He indicated it would be a busy morning on the talk show circuit.

Lysacek, who hails from west suburban Naperville, has spoken proudly of his Greek background – and his Orthodoxy – having referred to his baptismal cross as one of his most prized possessions. There’s surely more to come from this talented young man.
