Greek Prime Minister Talks to Al Jazeera

Prime Minister, George Papandreou, states in an interview with Al Jazeera’s Barnaby Phillips in Athens, that the measures taken are painful but necessary.
George Papandreou, acknowledges that his people do hurt. “I very much understand the protests, but in the same time, I think the people are determent,” he said. “Because of the pain, they say never again. Let’s, really make these changes; let’s make Greece a viable economy and a competitive good economy.”
Further on, the Greek prime minister responds to the economic criticism he has indorsed by saying, that the measures his government has introduced are “programs of stability and growth.”
Growth he explains, means creating an environment for investment, resolving the bureaucratic blockage, presenting new opportunities and finally, turning around the development model.
At the time, Barnaby Philips asked about the way Europe treats the economic crises Mr. Papandreou said, that what is needed is more cooperation, more integration and a more globalized economy. The only way to overcome these global challenges is if we only have more Europe, not less, greater integration not less and more governance.
“We need to make this crisis a moment of creativity and of opportunity, and that is what I am determined to do,” the prime minister of Greece said to concluded the interview.
