Rome museum displays Greek silverware

2222History lovers checking in to hotels in Rome over the next couple of months will be given the opportunity to see a stunning collection of ancient Greek silverware.
The collection of 16 pieces, which includes ceremonial objects as well as household bowls and plates, has only just returned to the city as part of an agreement with the Metropolitan Museum of New York.
To celebrate their return to the Eternal City, which forms part of the Italian government’s drive to reclaim antiquities that have ended up in foreign hands over the centuries, the pieces have now been put on display at the Museo Nazionale Romano, just a short distance from many popular hotel Roma.
Welcoming the return of what is known as the Morgantina Treasure collection, the museum’s archaeology superintendent Angelo Bottini was quoted by the Associated Press as explaining that the objects were likely crafted by different artists and represent one of the most important Hellenistic silverware collections found to date.
The collection will be on display until the end of May, though the National Museum of Rome is also home to a number of world famous permanent exhibits, including the ancient pieces held in the Baths of Diocletian.
