Greeks at the Oscars

Oscars_generalTina Fey presents, Sid Ganis organizes, and Louie Psihoyos and Alexander Desplat are nominated for the 82nd Academy Awards.  Celebrities of Greek descent, such as Jennifer Anniston and Maria Menounos will strut their stuff on this year’s red carpet.

The Greek-American comedic writer and actress was also a  presenter of  last year’s Oscar ceremony. Sid Ganis was the president of Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences (A.M.P.A.S) up until last year, and this year he remains a governor of the Academy along with our Greek friend, Jim Gianopulos, president of 2oth Century Fox.

Louie Psihoyos is nominated in the category of Best Documentary  for his  “eco-thriller” , The Cove. The movie has received very favorable critiques, and it will be no surprise if Louie takes home the Golden Statue.

Composer Alexandre Desplat (French father/Greek mother) is up for Best Original Score for his work on Fantastic Mr. Fox.
