Athens: Ambassadors of Hellenism 2010

33Six scientists from Greece, Uruguay, Egypt, China, Spain and the United States of America have been declared as Ambassadors of Hellenism, this year and for the 13th consecutive year in an event which was hosted last night Athens Prefecture at the Athens Concert Hall.
Special Distinctions were awarded for his humanitarian and missionary work, to His Beatitude Anastasios, Archbishop of Tirana (foto), Durres and all Albania, who honoured this year’s event with his presence.
The Ambassador of Hellenism for 2010 are, Athanasios Fokas, Professor of Applied Mathematics known for his work in the field of integrable nonlinear partial differential equations, Margarita Larriera, Professor of Greek Language and Director of the “Maria Tsakos” foundation in Uruguay, Gregory Nagy, Professor at the University of Harvard and Director of the Centre of Hellenic Studies in Washington, Dr. Ahmed Etman, Professor and Chair of Hellenic and Latin Studies Department of Cairo University and founder and President of the Egyptian Community of Hellenic and Roman Studies, Chen Minhua, Director of Hellenic Studies in the Institute of Foreign Languages of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and Pedro Olalla, Writer and Philhellene Researcher, Professor of Literature, translator and photographer .
The event “Ambassador of Hellenism” is dedicated to the memory of the late Minister and Actress Melina Merkouri, the first “Ambassador of Hellenism” honoring those, who promote and serve the Greek ideals and culture world-wide, through their work.
