The President of the Hellenic Parliament, Philippos Petsalnikos proposed the creation of a Support Fund for Greece, through volunteer donations and support from the Greek citizens, but also Greeks of the Diaspora, who seek ways to contribute to the struggle of our nation to escape the unfortunate condition it is currently undergoing.
In the interview he gave on Sunday for the TV Network, Mega Channel, Mr. Petsalnikos stated, among other things, that “we are in an extremely difficult situation, which we can only escape by relying on our own forces, our own efforts and sacrifices. The measures must be effective and final should be up to us and be taken immediately. “
• Creation of a Support Fund for Greece
The President of the Greek Parliament is currently receiving a number of letters, phone calls and emails from our compatriots, who are expressing their concern and will to contribute to a nation-wide effort. The President stated that:
“Greece is not only comprised of people who evade taxes and social insurance contributions. Greece is also home to sensitive and earnest people, who ask me on a daily basis how they could help the country with their own powers, through their personal income, regardless of their financial state, but they don’t know how they can help.
For this reason, I believe it would be necessary to take positive action and create a Support Fund for Greece, with the voluntary contributions of the society and citizens. The sensitivity of our compatriots, Greeks of the Diaspora, and their will to contribute is evident.”
The President of the Parliament made a note of the statement of the former U.S. President John F. Kennedy, who said: “Do not just think every day what your country for you, think what you can do for you and your country.
As Mr Petsalnikos stated, this Fund could be run by a non-partisan figure, of wide acceptance, who will also be surrounded by impartial people, unaffected by political factions and parties. And the donations of the citzens could be exclusively allocated towards e.g. the reduction of our public debt.
In another interview the President of the Parliament stated that the Members of the Greek Parliament and of course himself could actually contribute through their own donations, as a first indication of the need to join forces so as to help our nation escape the financial crisis it is currently undergoing.
