White House spokesman Robert Gibbs on Tuesday said President Barack Obama has been fully briefed on Greece’s massive public debt problems and expressed “confidence” that the European Union is capable of handling the crisis, AFP reports.
Gibbs said the US leader had been briefed about the crisis by Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, White House economy czar Lawrence Summers and Christina Romer, chair of the White House council of economic advisers.
“We have confidence, as they told the president, that the EU is capable of dealing with this situation,” Gibbs told reporters.
